MOST POPULAR SOFTWARE - Since 1999, Internet Explorer has been the most widely used web browser, and attaining a peak of about 95% usage share during 2002 and 2003 with Internet Explorer 5 and Internet Explorer 6.

Since peak of its popularity, its usage share has been declining in the face of renewed competition from other web browsers. In the late 1990s Microsoft spent over US$100 million per year for Internet Explorer, with over 1000 people working on it by 1999.

Until July 2011, the Internet Explorer latest stable release is Internet Explorer 9, which is available as a free update for Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Vista SP2 and Windows 7.
